BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A well-known Baton Rouge attorney was arrested for allegedly violating a temporary protective order that was placed against him. However, a Baton Rouge judge held an emergency hearing and determined that no violation had been committed.

Joel Porter, 56, was arrested by Baton Rouge Police Officers on Wednesday, April 16, near a downtown courthouse.

According to the probable cause report, the incident occurred within the past week. The victim claims that a woman who identified herself as Porter's attorney called her requesting information about an upcoming court date. The victim also claims the defendant's attorney text messaged her. She believes Porter attempted to intimidate her through his attorney.

"Detectives reviewed the signed order and noted that it explicitly stated the defendant was prevented from contacting the victim personally, electronically, by phone, in writing, or through a third party," the arresting officer noted in the probable cause report.

Court documents indicate that Porter is to appear in court on Thursday, April 17 for a trial regarding the protective order, which is set to expire on the same day.

Following Porter's arrest, Judge Yvette Alexander held an emergency hearing regarding the violation. The judge ruled that there was no violation of the restraining order. However, Porter will return to court tomorrow regarding the status of the protective order.
