Coast Guard rescues 3 from grounded tug taking on water

NEW ORLEANS, LA (WAFB) - The US Coast Guard said it rescued three people from a grounded tugboat that was taking on water Tuesday.

It happened on Lake Pontchartrain in New Orleans.

Officials reported the Coast Guard Sector New Orleans command center received a report the UTV Todd Michael was taking on water and possibly grounded near the Lakefront Airport.

The Coast Guard said a helicopter and boat were sent to the scene. According to reports, two tug crewmen were lifted to the helicopter, while the third was rescued by boat.

Officials added the crewmembers for taken to the hospital for treatment. Their conditions are unknown.

The Coast Guard said the crew was aboard an uninspected tugboat.
