BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - SWAT members arrested a man after he allegedly took school bus driver hostage at gunpoint and barricaded himself in a house for several hours Monday morning.
The Baton Rouge Police Department said Jock Jones, 37, of Baton Rouge, is charged with aggravated kidnapping, carjacking and felon in possession of a firearm.
Officials said the incident started when Jones went to the home of a woman he knows around 6:15 a.m. The woman works as a school bus driver and he allegedly confronted her before she left to complete her route.
According to witnesses, Jones pulled out a handgun and forced the woman onto the bus. He reportedly demanded the woman to drive them to his home on Billops Street, which is located roughly one block from Capitol Elementary.
Police were notified about the alleged kidnapping and were able to locate the bus at Jones' home. Investigators said when officers arrived at the home, Jones released the woman, but he remained inside.
Capitol Elementary was notified about the incident and the school was placed on lockdown as a precaution.
Jones surrendered to police shortly after 9 a.m. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Bond has not been set.
