GONZALES, LA (WAFB) - Nearly 300 Louisiana National Guardsmen were honored for their service with special awards.
As part of a Freedom Salute Ceremony, the 922nd Engineer Company based out of Gonzales was one of the units to receive the Louisiana War Cross as well as several other awards on Sunday, April 13th.
Some of the soldier said they were happy to see some familiar faces.
"It seems like a big family reunion," said Spc. Corey King. "A lot of these people I haven't seen since we came home in December, so it was good seeing some of their faces again."
The 922nd spent the last year in Kuwait, but Specialist King say they were fortunate not to see any combat.
