LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A new memorial was unveiled to honor veterans on Friday. A Navy F-4 Phantom made the trip to the Satsuma exit of I-12 and will be on display there to honor those who served.

State and parish leaders gathered today for the unveiling. Veterans who flew this type of plane say this means a lot to them.

"They assign them an airplane, they put their name on an airplane, so they put my name on an airplane. And I didn't always get to fly that one, but you felt like it was yours. This airplane, when we got it from the Naval Museum, we got the approval to paint it in this color scheme and to make it look like a real airplane during this time period, 1974," a spokesperson commented.

Friday's event kicks off a weekend long event in Livingston to honor veterans of World War II.
