BRPD: No charges filed against driver who hit 7-year-old boy

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Police have not filed charges related to a crash that sent a 7-year-old boy to the hospital in critical condition.

"There will be no charges filed against the driver who caused the crash," Cpl. L'Jean McKneely, Baton Rouge Police Department, said. "The investigating officers found no evidence with which to charge her. But, the investigation is ongoing."

The incident happened on Wednesday, April 9 shortly before 4 p.m. The boy, who is a first grader at Sharon Hills Elementary school, had just gotten off the school bus, which was stopped in the northbound lane of Simplex Street. He was crossing the street when he was hit by a car driving in the eastbound lane on Cadillac Street.

The child was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. An update on his condition was not available.
