NEW ORLEANS, LA (WVUE) -

New Orleans police said officers caught a man in the act after he forced a woman into her Carrollton-area home Wednesday night, raped and robbed her.

James Johnson, 21, was booked with aggravated rape, robbery and false imprisonment with a weapon. Police said Johnson is a repeat offender who was on parole for armed robbery until the end of 2014.

The rape and robbery happened in the 7300 block of Hickory Street.

"Around 6:30 p.m., a call came in that someone was in need of help - a female was screaming for help," said NOPD Superintendent Ronal Serpas. "Our detectives and uniformed officers were there almost immediately."

Extra police units were already in the neighborhood looking for suspicious activity after a string of recent crimes on Adams, Green and Panola. Police say Johnson admitted his involvement in the Panola Street attack.

"He confessed to not only the crime that occurred that we caught him in, but he confessed to Panola Street and he gave us other information as well," said Second District Cmdr. Paul Noel.

In the Panola Street case, three men tied up two women with computer chords and then robbed them of cell phones, computers and cash. Police are still looking for the other men involved, and Serpas said that extra patrols units will remain in the area until they're caught.
