BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Students at a Baton Rouge received a lesson in fire safety Monday morning they will not soon forget.
Some of the kids at Most Blessed Sacrament Catholic School smiled as they left the building, but that's because it was all part of a drill.
The smoke was actually a fog machine provided by the St. George Fire Department. Fire officials conduct these full-scale live drills periodically as a training exercise for firefighters.
"We have simulated victims, we conduct search and suppression efforts and we do everything just like we're trained to do on a fire ground," said Eldon Ledoux with SGFD.
"It was kind of scary because you didn't know what was going to happen and you couldn't see anything," said Austin Joseph.
Firefighters hope the drills help kids overcome fears of the rescuer. It also gets them used to the sights and sounds of an emergency situation.
