BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman was arrested in an operation that targeted Internet prostitution, and police say she is also facing drug charges.
It happened on April 5th at a hotel on Plaza Americana in Baton Rouge. According to the probable cause report, an undercover officer responded to an ad on Backpage.com posted by 26-year-old Janell Smith.
Smith arrived at the hotel at around 3:00 p.m. and agreed to have sex for $230. She was then placed under arrest.
Police report that a small plastic bag totaling about 1 gram of marijuana, and also approximately 0.3 grams of heroin was found in the room.
Authorities say Smith claimed that the marijuana was hers, but she had no knowledge of the heroin.
She was transported to the EBR Parish Prison and charged with prostitution, possession of a schedule 1 drug (heroin), and possession of marijuana.
Her bail was set at $45,000.
