Robbery suspect sought for alleged gunfire exchange with Lafayette store clerk

LAFAYETTE, LA (WAFB) - The Lafayette Police Department are seeking assistance in locating an armed robbery suspect who exchanged gunfire with a store clerk employee.

It happened Saturday at around 8:00 p.m. when authorities responded to the 700 block of North St. Antoine.

Police say a store employee reported that a suspect entered the store armed with a black revolver and he demanded money. The suspect allegedly fired one shot in the employee's direction, and the employee returned fire at the suspect.

The store clerk was not injured in the robbery.

According to Lafayette Police spokesman Cpl. Paul Mouton, the suspect reportedly fled the scene in an unknown direction without any money. He is described as being a tall, black male about 6.0 to 6.2 feet in height with a medium build. He was dressed in dark clothing and a blue mask, covering parts of his face.

Detectives are encouraging anyone with information about the robbery or the identity of the suspect to call Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
