BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A group dedicated to empowering women held a conference about equal pay between men and women at LSU.
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is hosting a forum throughout the weekend of April 5th. They will be teaching women how to demand equal pay. They say women are paid on average 67 cents for every dollar paid to men.
The organization claims that Louisiana is one of the worst offenders in the country for equal pay.
"We are definitely paid less than men for performing the same amount of work and having the same levels of education," said AAUW State Organizer Melodia Gutierrez.
LSU student Carol Hymel said, "There should always be equal pay and I don't, I don't understand how we've gotten to the point where we don't have equal pay and that's really something important that we need to fix."
The organization will also discuss upcoming legislation dealing with pay discrimination.
