Tribute to WWII veterans with F-4 Phantom Navy Fighter Aircraft display

LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

In Satsuma, LA, parked along I-12 on exit 19 in Livingston Parish, you may have noticed an F-4 Phantom Navy Jet on display. This weekend the public is invited to join Livingston Parish in paying tribute to World War II veterans.

The weekend kicks off on April 11, 2014 at 10 a.m. in Satsuma with a formal introduction ceremony of the Navy fighter jet that will be permanently displayed and lighted, for all to enjoy.

The Town of Livingston took responsibility of the jet from the U.S. Navy and Naval Museum in Pensacola, FL. This aircraft, one of America's most respected, is capable of flying 1,400 miles per hour.

Events will continue through the weekend  in Walker with live music and firing demonstrations.

The William W. Perkins WWII Memorial Weekend will be held on April 12-13, 2014 at The Sidney Hutchinson Memorial Park in Walker, La. The event will include a WWII battle reenactment on Saturday and Sunday as well as other scheduled events throughout the weekend.

There will be food and merchandise vendors as well as activities for the kids. On Saturday night there will be a 1940's USO show.The event is named in honor of S/Sgt. William W. Perkins - USA. He served in the pacific theater of operations with the 7th infantry division. The Saturday and Sunday activities are free to the public.
