Sheriff: Prison visitor ends up behind bars after attempting to smuggle in weed

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A woman visiting the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison ended up on the other side of the bars after deputies say she tried to smuggle in drugs for an inmate.

According to the probable cause report, Sharyn Arthur, 43, visited the prison on Wed., April 2. Prison security located an envelope with 3 grams of marijuana, 7 Kool brand tobacco cigarettes, rolling papers, and cigar wrappers.

"The accused stated she did smuggle the marijuana and cigarettes in concealed upon her person and left them near the telephones for [an inmate]," notes the report. "The accused stated today was the first day she had delivered the narcotics for [the inmate], but a computer search revealed that the accused had visited a total of 11 times since January 2014. The accused stated, 'I made a stupid mistake today bringing the dope in…"

Arthur was arrested and charged with contraband in a penal facility and possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. Both are felony charges. She is currently being held in lieu of a $20,000 bond.
