Police find man shot to death in doorway of home

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A man is dead and a woman is hospitalized after a shooting late Wednesday night.

The man who died is identified as Travis Mitchell, 25, of Baton Rouge. The woman's name was not released.

The Baton Rouge Police Department reported the shooting happened at Mitchell's home on North 35th Street, which is between Gus Young Avenue and Cain Street, around 11:30 p.m.

Cpl. Don Coppola Jr. said Mitchell was found dead in the front door of the home from gunshot wounds to the face and arm pit area. He added it is believed the shots were fired at him from outside.

According to investigators, the woman remains in the hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.

Police said numerous shots were fired in the area. They have not yet identified a suspect. They added the motive and details surrounding the shooting are still being investigated.
