BAKER, LA (WAFB) - A grand jury has chosen not to indict a teen charged with second degree murder in Baker in January.
Kenard Maurice Gaines, 17, was charged with the murder of 19-year-old Kortlon Johnson of Baton Rouge. Police say the shooting happened in a home on Daniels Street. Officials say the victim arrived and asked Gaines to step outside, an argument began and that's when police say Gaines shot Johnson three times. Johnson was found dead behind the home.
District Attorney Hillar Moore tells WAFB he agrees with decision.
"I cannot comment for the grand jury, but based on my understanding of the evidence and witness statements, I agree with their decision," he says.
