Couple charged with attempted murder for severely beating woman

PRAIRIEVILLE, LA (WAFB) - Two people have been arrested for allegedly beating a woman. The victim is reportedly in critical condition at the hospital.

According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office, deputies were dispatched to Joe Sevario Road on Friday, March 28. When they arrived, they found a woman lying on the sidewalk.

"The victim was transported to an area hospital where she is listed in critical condition," Major Ward Webb, said.

Witnesses told investigators that Ashleigh Parker, 21, was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim. At some point things became physical and Parker allegedly called her boyfriend, Manly Gilley, 29, for backup.

When Gilley arrived, he's accused of beating and kicking the victim to the point of unconsciousness. Parker allegedly participated.

Deputies arrested Gilley and Parker and charged them with attempted second-degree murder. Both are being held in the Ascension Parish Detention Center without bond.
