SHELBY COUNTY, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Ed Loyde, 52, who was convicted in February for the rape of an 8-year-old girl, was sentenced to 35 years in prison without parole, according to Shelby County District Attorney General Amy Weirich.

Loyde was living with a family in the Orange Mound neighborhood in May 2011. He told the family he was a church deacon and was studying to become a preacher. After he moved out a few months later, a young girl living at the home told her grandmother about Loyde's actions. The grandmother then told police.

Loyde was sentenced Monday to 25 years in prison for rape of a child and 10 years in prison for aggravated sexual battery. He is not eligible for parole and his sentences will be served consecutively.

In addition, Lloyd will also be required to register as a sex offender and will be under community supervision for life.

Lloyd pleaded guilty to indecency with a child under the age of 17 in 1997. He was sentenced to 10 years in a Texas prison for that crime.
