Gaines' family protest proposed 'crime of violence' bill

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A bill to add vehicular homicide as a "crime of violence" in Louisiana was the subject of a protest on the Capitol steps.

The statute was the subject of anger from the Gaines family, who lost three generations of family members when a convicted drunk driver--Brett Gerald, crashed into their van in 2012.

The proposed bill says the offender's blood alcohol must be .20 percent of blood alcohol to be considered a crime of violence.

Gerald's B-A-C was point-one-five after his crash in Slaughter.
