BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A Port Allen man was sentenced to 60 years in prison for the murder of a man at a Baton Rouge gas station.
Phillip Carter, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter and armed robbery on Monday, March 31. He was originally charged with second-degree murder, but the family of the victim agreed to the plea deal to avoid going to trial.
The victim, Bobby Nelson, was shot and killed at the Chevron gas station located in downtown Baton Rouge on the corner of St. Ferdinand and Government Street. Nelson was filling up his 18-wheeler with gas when the attempted armed robbery occurred.
Robert Pierson, 18, was also arrested in connection to this incident. He is also charged with second-degree murder and armed robbery. He has not yet been tried. According to records, he is still being held in the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on a bond of $75,000.
