BAKER, LA (WAFB) - The suspect in the Baker shooting that left three teenagers dead Friday was identified Monday during a juvenile detention hearing.
Officials say Nakeydran L. Williams, 16, is being held in connection with the shooting deaths of Kendal Dorsey, 15, Diontrey Claiborne, 18, and Marcell Franklin, 15. They were shot and killed at a private birthday party at the Baker Civic Club Friday.
Another victim in the shooting, Javaugn Simmons, 19, remains in stable condition.
Nakeydran Williams did not appear in court Monday. His attorney, Erika Green, asked for his appearance to be waived. She also asked for a continuance because of the nature of the crime. Green told Judge Pamela Taylor Johnson that she represents the teenager in other cases and family members asked her to represent him for this incident.
Williams was booked into the detention center Saturday on three counts of first degree murder, one count attempted first degree murder and illegal use of a weapon following the Friday night shooting.
"After having spoken with all the different detectives, it would be my inclination right now that this matter should be tried in adult court," said District Attorney Hillar Moore.
Moore said there's no timeline on when that could happen.
District Attorney Moore did say if that happens, Williams would not face the death penalty because of his age. The detention hearing for the teen is now scheduled for April 14.
Officials have estimated that there were between 50-100 people at the party when the shooting occurred.
