Man who shot and killed dog speaks about the incident

JONESBORO, AR (KAIT) – The man who shot a dog to protect his own, now is facing threats from strangers.

"I was working and just out of nowhere he just comes out and threatens me," said the shooter.

Although, it's caused controversy among many, he said his decision to shoot is justified.

"When you get a concealed permit you have to consider a lot of situations," said the shooter. "What I ended up doing is deciding that my life and the life of things I care about are more important than the life of somebody, or something that's attacking me."

According to Jonesboro Police, no crime was committed.  The shooter was on family owned property, had a concealed license and felt threatened from a dog that wasn't on a leash.

"There are issues with dogs running loose," said the shooter. "The leash law here hasn't ever really been enforced."

He says that if the dog's owners had him on a leash, it could have changed the outcome of the situation.

"It was about an inch away from ripping my dog's throat out," he said. "I'm not going to let that happen."

"Remorse would mean I would have done something wrong," he said. "I feel regret that the dog had to die, but I don't feel remorse for my actions."

The shooter filled out a report with Jonesboro Police after getting harassed at work. The case has since then been handed over to the Craighead County Sheriff's Department.
