HOUMA, LA (WAFB) - An accused burglar was caught in the act by police early Friday morning at Mr. Poboy on Grand Caillou Road in Houma.
It happened around 5:30 a.m. Police were called to the restaurant because of a burglary alarm.
When officers arrived, they saw an unoccupied vehicle behind the building with the engine running. Officers then say a man walk out of the back door wearing a ski mask and holding a safe.
Officers told the man to get on the ground, but reports say he refused. Officers then used a police taser on the man. They found a large amount of money in the suspect's pockets.
The man was identified as 33-year-old Gabriel Luke Slaaen.
He was arrested for simple burglary and was taken to the Terrebonne Parish Jail where he is awaiting trial or bond.
The investigation is ongoing as detectives believe Slaaen may be involved in other burglaries throughout the area.
