BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - An LSU fan was arrested after he confessed to sneaking into a restricted area of the PMAC and taking various items.
Officials say the incident happened on March 14 during a sports event at the Pete Maravich Assembly Center. An athletic trainer at the facility contacted police because his property was missing from the training room located on the west side of the PMAC.
"The victim's personal bag had been stolen from a room inside the PMAC," Capt. Cory Lalonde, LSU Police Department. "Other LSU-related items that were kept in that area were also taken."
We're told the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office contacted the victim when his bag was turned in to the lost and found. They were able to locate the victim because his wallet was inside the bag.
The LSU police officer contacted the Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office and they identified the man who turned in the property as Richard Eckler.
Surveillance cameras revealed that two individuals, identified as Eckler and a juvenile, were seen taking the property from the PMAC. Eckler was then questioned about the incident.
"Eckler fully confessed, to include saying he was responsible for the actions of the juvenile that was in his company," the officer noted in the report. "Eckler also advised that he knew what he was being called in for and brought all the property that he was responsible for taking."
Eckler was arrested and charged with burglary and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile. He was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. His bond is set at $7,000.
