PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) -

A deadly crash involving an 18-wheeler and a car caused the closure of a portion of US 190 Thursday morning.

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) reported the wreck happened on US 190 East at Riverview Road in Port Allen around 6:30 a.m. The roadway was reopened around 9:45 a.m.

State Police say 54-year-old Barry Huffman of Elmwood, KS was driving the tractor-trailer westbound and 51-year-old Ricky Moore off Melville, LA was driving eastbound when Huffman tried to make a U-turn. For unknown reasons, Moore's vehicle hit the rear wheels of the trailer.

Troopers say both Moore and Huffman were both wearing his seatbelts at the time of the crash. Huffman was not injured in the crash.

This crash remains under investigation, and charges may be pending.
