ASCENSION PARISH, LA (WAFB) - State transportation leaders announced Tuesday they are ready to get moving on a big project to help relieve traffic in Ascension Parish.
Work is set to begin this week to widen highway 42 in Prairieville from Airline Highway to Highway 44. Crews have already begun setting the stage for the construction project.
The first part improvement includes clearing land and installing a new sewer system. This is all to accommodate a residential and business boom in the area.
"Widening this corridor will provide safer, smoother flow of traffic for residents in the area and will improve the movement of goods along the route," said Sherri Lebas, LADOTD Secretary.
The second phase of the project includes widening the roadway and paving bike and walking paths.
The project is expected to be finished in the summer of 2016.
