BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced Tuesday morning work will begin this week on a project to expand LA 42 in Ascension Parish.
Officials said LA 42 will be widened between US 61 (Airline Highway) and LA 44 (North Burnside Avenue), which is a stretch of almost four miles.
DOTD estimates phase one will cost $8.7 million. It involves clearing land and installing a new sewer system. Officials said that part should be complete by the winter.
The second phase of the project, which involves the actual road construction, is expected to cost between $20 million and $30 million. Officials hope to be finished in the summer of 2016.
