SMSPO: Missing family of boaters "found safe and alive"

BERWICK, LA (WAFB) - A family of four boaters  have been found alive and well after a report had been released that the family had gone missing. The investigators from the Marine Division of the St. Mary Parish Office had launched a search for their whereabouts, but authorities sent a release that the family had been located shortly after announcing the search.

According to the police report, Peter and Jennifer Orlando had left with their son and daughter from the Berwick Boat Landing at around 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22nd. The Orlandos were possibly heading to the Halters Island area, but deputies say they did not return to the landing in Berwick as expected.

Sunday evening, the SMSPO was contacted, and deputies had teamed up with the LA Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office, and the US Coast Guard to look for the family of boaters.

Investigators say the family was located across the bay from Halters Island.

Officials say that they will release more detailed information on March 24th, Monday morning.
