BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Fire investigators say high winds helped fuel an afternoon blaze that destroyed one home and damaged two others.

When firefighters arrived at the home on N. 36th just before 1:30 p.m., they say it was covered in flames. Once they got it under control, firefighters say they learned two dogs were still trapped inside the home.

They were able to get one out, but officials say because of its injuries it will have to be put to sleep.

The owners were not home when the fire started. Investigators believe an overloaded extension cord caused the fire.
