BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Baton Rouge Police Narcotics Division arrested six people Friday after conducting two search warrants on businesses suspected of selling illegal synthetic marijuana.

The first warrant was served on the Fun Smoke Shop on Plank Road in Baker just after 1 p.m. Investigators who were assisted by the BRAVE unit and Baker police found 403 packages of suspected synthetic marijuana.

Kimberly Brown, 32 of Plaquemine and Sujitra Clark, 41, both employees, were charged with possession with the intent to distribute.  They were later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

The second shop that was targeted was Fun Time Novelties Smoke Shop on Hewwood Avenue in Baton Rouge. Hewwood is off O'Neal Lane in south Baton Rouge. Police said it also sells synthetic marijuana that contains a banned ingredient.

Carl Bazile, 46, and Angelica Clark, 20, employees of Fun Time, were charged with possession with intent to distribute.  The search resulted in 3,426 packages of suspected synthetic marijuana, packaging materials, and suspected active ingredients for making synthetic marijuana. They were later booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

Two Fun Time customers were arrested in the parking lot. They are John Smith, 26, and Blythe Martin, 22 for possessing alprazolalm and oxycodone. Smith was charged with possession of oxycodone and resisting an officer. Martin was charged with possession of oxycodone, alprazolalm and drug paraphernalia. They were also booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison.

All of the synthetic marijuana seized is headed to the crime lab.

BRAVE officers and BRPD Narcotics Units conducted the raids following an investigation that started weeks ago.

Police say the shop on Hewwood had the dry compound and the liquid cutting agents used to intensify the effects.  The two are mixed and then sealed into individual packets.  Police believe the street drug was being manufactured at Fun Time Novelties Smoke Shop and both shops were selling the products.  Police say one person owns both shops.

District Attorney Hillar Moore plans to prosecute the cases once results come back from the crime lab.
