BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A special event is being held at the USS Kidd Friday in honor of Women's History Month.

March is set aside as a time to celebrate past and present achievements of women, empowering the ladies to do more great things in the future.

There will be a free presentation and panel discussion at the USS Kidd Museum Theatre. The Women Veterans of Louisiana will lead the discussion about life in the military.

"Started off in Fort McClellan, then Vietnam," said Mary Fish of the Women's Army Corps. "I learned not only, the initial IBM key punch and all of that stuff, so I learned from there and then after getting out, I was able to use my GI Bill to go to nursing school."

The event at the USS Kidd kicks off at 1 p.m. It will start with a presentation on women in the military, followed by the panel discussion in the museum theatre.
