BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Southern University and its College of Nursing and Allied Health have teamed up with the Baton Rouge Chapter of Links to promote the "Be the Match" bone marrow donation campaign.
Sign-up forms and information will be available on Monday, March 24 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Smith-Brown Memorial Student Union and the lobby of the College of Nursing – on the Baton Rouge campus.
You can complete a form and get a quick cheek cell swab to become a donor. Donors must be between 18 and 44 years old and meet certain health guidelines.
The campaign is especially important for African Americans because the chance of finding a match is as low as 66 percent. And Blacks generally have greater diversity in their tissue types than people of other races so that makes it even more challenging.
