BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office is looking 40-year-old Robert Daemont Smith for two counts of felony theft.

In July and October of 2013, Smith met and started a relationship with two different women. In both cases, police say he informed the women that he was a local business man. Early into both relationships, he invited the women to a formal event.

Police say Smith then gave each of the women a check, one in the amount of $1,500.00 and the other for $2,000.00. Both checks were from his business account: Robert Smith Group Safety Professionals LLC.

Police reports say Smith gave the same instructions to both women: to deposit the checks in their accounts and then use the money to buy clothes and pamper themselves with things like a pedicure, manicure, etc. Both women then deposited the checks into their personal accounts.

Shortly afterwards, Smith contacted the women telling them that he needed the money back for business reasons. Both women withdrew the money from their personal accounts and returned it to him. Both women were then contacted by their banks and informed that the checks from Smith were written from a closed account, leaving both out of money ($1,500 in one case and $2,000 in the other).
