Suspected arson destroys home

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators believe a fire that destroyed a home early Thursday morning was purposely set.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department said the suspected arson happened in the 2200 block of Maryland Street in Baton Rouge around 12:15 a.m.

Robert Combs with BRFD said the fire was already moving into the attic when firefighters arrived on the scene, but firemen were able to get the two people inside to safety.

The Red Cross responded to help the family.

The investigation is ongoing.
