AMITE, LA (WVUE) -

A 63-year-old Amite woman shot and killed her brother, then barricaded herself in her home Wednesday, according to Amite Police Chief Jerry Trabona.

Trabona said the Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff's Special Response Team was called to the 100 block of South 2nd Street after Daryl Lynn Hill fired one fatal shot at 62-year-old Alfred Hill just after 3 p.m.

Trabona said Hill, who lives in a home behind her brother, kept police at bay for about an hour. When police fired tear gas through her window to flush her out, Daryl Lynn Hill called 911 to report that someone was firing into her home, Trabona said.

Hill surrendered after police busted in her back door. No one else was injured.

Trabona said it was not clear what motivated the crime.

"She says she doesn't even know she shot anyone," Trabona said. "She says she didn't even own a gun, but we found the gun - it looked like a toy gun. We have the weapon now."

Trabona said it was not immediately known what charges Hill will face.
