TROY, AL (WSFA) -

The Troy University baseball team fell to Jacksonville State 7-3 on Tuesday night at Riddle-Pace Field.

The Trojans fell behind after Jacksonville State scored five runs on four hits early in the game. Troy starter Jesse Nelson was given the loss dropping his record to 1-1 on the year. Austin Sullivan was the lone bright spot of the night for the Troy pitching squad, throwing six scoreless innings allowing just two hits and striking out seven.

Clay Holcomb walked in the bottom of the first inning and advanced to second on a Garrett Pitts ground ball. Holcomb would take third on a steal, and then scored when Trevin Hall reached on an error. The Gamecocks would add another score in the top of the second before Troy could answer in the fourth.

Hall tripled to lead off the fourth and then scored on a David Hall ground out. Nick Masonia then singled and scored on a TJ Binder single.

It would not be enough however as the Gamecocks would add another run in the ninth inning to cap off the scoring.

The Trojans fall to 10-9 on the year and will host Alabama State on Wednesday in Troy. The teams will finish their suspended games from March 11 at 6 p.m. Troy led the suspended game 8-5 in the top of the eighth inning.
