Audit shows Amite police getting paid for non-work

AMITE, LA (WAFB) - A new audit reveals some Amite police were getting paid for court appearances even when they didn't show up.

A legislative audit released Monday March 17 claims from April 2012 to October 2013 , Chief Jerry Trabona "paid 25 officers witness fees totaling $18,000 for 360 court appearances in which officers were not present in court" - which the auditor noted might violate state law.

In a letter, the chief responded saying the auditor never told him he was doing anything wrong.
