BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - A 29-year-old man was arrested for attempted murder after he allegedly attacked two people with a hammer, then head-butted a police officer.
According to the Baton Rouge Police Department, the incident happened on Sunday, March 16 at roughly 1 p.m. Police were dispatched a home located in the 1200 block of Laurel Street in reference to an assault.
"The suspect attacked the first victim with a hammer. The second victim attempted to intervene and got between the suspect and the other victim," Cpl. Don Coppola, BRPD, said. "The suspect hit the victim several times with the hammer in the face and head area."
Both victims were transported to the hospital. An update on their conditions was not provided.
The suspect, Omari Jordan, was eventually located on Florida Blvd at the bus station. He was allegedly covered in blood.
"Jordan had a laceration on his thumb," Cpl. Coppola noted. "Jordan was transported to the hospital. When he was being transported back to the police vehicle, he head-butted the arresting officer."
Jordan was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison for attempted second-degree murder and battery of a police officer. His bond is set at $107,000.
