Dirt bike rider survives getting shot in the head, search ongoing for shooter

SCHRIEVER, LA (WAFB) -

Investigators are trying to identify the person responsible for shooting a dirt bike rider in the head Saturday evening.

The Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said an 18-year-old was shot in the back of the head while riding a dirt bike in a field near Bull Run Road in Schriever around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies reported the victim was taken to Thibodaux Regional Hospital and underwent surgery to remove the bullet from his head. They added he was released from the hospital later that night and is expected to make a full recovery.

Detectives said the shooting happened in an area where people frequent for target practice. They added it is believed the shooting was an accident.

They interviewed several people living in the area, but have not yet found the person responsible for the shooting.
