OVER THE RHINE, OH (FOX19) -

The cast of 'Carol' took to the streets of Over the Rhine on Monday as filming continued for the newest Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara movie.

Cast and Crew took over a location at Walut and 12th Street, transforming the area into 1950s New York City.

Filming has been widely scattered across the Tri-state over the past couple of weeks. Locations have included Cheviot, Eden Park and Alexandria, Ky.

Picked up by the Weinstein Co. in Cannes last year, Carol chronicles the burgeoning and tempestuous relationship between two very different women in 1950s New York City.

Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, Kyle Chandler and Sarah Paulson have now all joined the Todd Haynes-directed film "Carol" being filmed entirely in Cincinnati.

Oscar winner Blanchett plays the older of the two, a wife trapped in a dead marriage who's desperate to leave but also fears losing her daughter if she does. "Friday Night Lights" alum Chandler, who can currently be seen in "The Wolf Of Wall Street,"  plays Harge, the Blanchett character's jealous husband.

Rooney Mara, best known for her lead role in the 2011 American adaptation of "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo," will play the young clerk, Therese Belivet.

For seven weeks, film crews will be found in 60 different shooting locations around the Queen City.

The Greater Cincinnati Film Commission said production for the film will create hundreds of jobs and have a significant economic impact in our area.

Governor John Kasich signed legislation in 2012 that increased the tax incentive Ohio offers for film projects produced in the state for the next two years from $10 million a year to $20 million a year. According to the film commission, the tax incentive returns $1.20 into the Ohio economy for every $1 invested.
