BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The first full day of the 2014 Legislative session is underway at the State Capitol. A big item on the agenda for the first day is license plates.
The House Transportation, Highways, and Public Works Committee approved the manufacture of a dozen specialty license plates.
The specialty license plates range from Hunters for the Hungry Louisiana plates to Louisiana Cattleman's association to a George Rodrigue Foundation license plate. The plates are more than a sign of pride for the particular organization, they provide added revenue for the group.
"Each individual cause, people have special places in their heart for (the specialty plates) and the driver's license bureaus do not print them until they have an order of 1,000. So there's a number they have to hit before they start to print," said Karen St. Germain, (D) District 60.
