2 drivers issued citations for causing crash involving school bus

PORT ALLEN, LA (WAFB) - A crash involving a school bus was caused by a driver who was attempting to pass it while it was stopped to unload children, officials say.

According to the West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office, the crash happened on Monday, March 10 shortly before 4:00 p.m. The school bus was stopped on Hwy. 190 at the Plantation Trailer Park - its final drop off for the day - when a truck attempted to go around it. A third vehicle traveling behind the truck failed to stop and struck the mini-van.

The driver of the truck and the driver of the third vehicle were issued citations.

The two occupants of the mini-van were transported to a local hospital. They are reportedly in stable condition.

Two children were in the process of exiting the bus when the crash happened. We're told they were "shaken up, but not injured."

There is some minor damage to the side of the school bus.
