BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Louisiana State Police say an impaired driver is at fault for a three vehicle crash. The crash happened just after 4:15 pm Friday afternoon on US Hwy 61 just north of Barringer Foreman Road.
An investigation revealed that Khamphangdeth Souvannaphim, 42, and Stephanie Dellafiora, 57, were both traveling northbound on US Hwy 61 while Scott Caballero, 42, was traveling southbound. Souvannaphim attempted to change lanes from right to left and was unaware that the traffic was stopped due to vehicles attempting to turn left. His vehicle went into the median, exited, and then struck the front of Dellafiora's vehicle. After hitting Dellafiora, Souvannaphim then struck Caballero's vehicle head on.
Souvannaphim had seven passengers in his vehicle at the time of the crash, two of them were unrestrained children. All passengers were taken to local hospitals with moderate to severe injuries.
Troopers do believe that Souvannaphim was under the influence of alcohol when the crash occurred. He received minor injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. After his release he was arrested for Driving while intoxicated, Careless operation, Vehicular negligent injuring, and No seatbelt and booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison. Both Dellafiora and Caballero were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Caballero was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
