LIVINGSTON PARISH, LA (WAFB) -

A woman died after a motorcycle crash in Livingston Parish, and her husband is in the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the Louisiana State Police, the incident happened at roughly 1:00 p.m. near the Diversion Canal on Hwy 16 at Hwy 22. The driver, Thomas E. Cole, Jr., 45, of Baton Rouge, lost control for unknown reasons and went off the road.

Cole's wife, Charlotte, 33, was a passenger on the bike. Both were wearing helmets, but were thrown off the bike during the crash.

Charlotte sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. Thomas was airlifted to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.

Investigators do not suspect alcohol or speed to be a factor in this crash. However, a sample of Cole's blood has been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
