St. George could have big impact on home buying market

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The proposed city of St. George could mean a big shift in home purchasing, according to local realtors.

In Audubon Square, this neighborhood is located in the proposed city. Realtor Scott Gaspard says his clients are using that fact as a reason to pour into the area.

"Baton Rouge folks that are moving up and around, as well as newcomers to the city, are giving some consideration. If they're moving, should they move within that area, you know, the idea of having local schools and more community driven," said Gaspard.

Gaspard also says that St. George could bring many people back to East Baton Rouge Parish.

"I think if it was to go through that a lot of folks would consider living here, just as they have moving out to Prairieville and Zachary and Livingston," he said.

Central became its own city in 2005, and it hasn't looked back since then.

Realtor Reda Cockerham has many listings in the new Central Square and says people are coming back into the area.

"We have people from south baton rouge moving here because of the schools, and also because of the traffic. It's been great for us," she said.

However, neighbors remain divided in South Baton Rouge, and the stakes aren't getting any lower. With new subdivisions popping up, the unincorporated area of the parish boasts more new construction projects.

The question is, what city will be listed in the address?
