SIERRA VISTA, AZ (AP) -

A man convicted of killing a 76-year-old Sierra Vista man and sexually assaulting the victim's wife in 2011 will live the rest of his life in prison.

The Sierra Vista Herald reports a judge in Bisbee ordered Theodore Ramos, who was 17 when he committed the crimes, to life without parole Wednesday.

Ramos was also received maximum sentences for 12 sexual assault counts, two counts of aggravated assault, burglary and kidnapping.

Ramos says he expressed his deepest condolences to the victims' family and friends.

A jury found Ramos guilty and sane of first-degree murder and other charges in February.

Perry Hicks, Ramos' defense attorney, had argued Ramos had serious mental health issues when he forced himself into the couple's home and slit the victim's throat with a kitchen knife.
