Obama Care: Enrollment and Community Outreach Day

From the City of Baton Rouge

Baton Rouge Primary Care Collaborative, Inc. (BRPCC) is hosting an enrollment and community outreach, Saturday, March 15, 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. The event will be held at the Jewel J. Newman Community Center, 2013 Central Road, Baton Rouge, 70807.

BPRCC, a non-profit corporation whose mission is to increase access to high-quality, comprehensive health care services for the underserved population of East Baton Rouge Parish and the surrounding areas regardless of ability to pay.

The event will provide onsite and scheduled help for people to enroll in the federal Affordable Care Act, also known as Obama Care. Nearly all Americans must have health insurance this year or face a financial penalty of $95 or 1 percent of income, whichever is greater.

March 31 is the last day to enroll without incurring a penalty for not having insurance in 2014.

"A lot of people make mistakes on their applications when they try to do it on their own," said Joyce Boatner, Certified Application Counselor, with BRPC Collaborative. "If you need insurance, don't' wait until the last minute."

The entire family is invited to come out, while parents are getting healthcare enrollment, kids can enjoy a fun-filled day with a DJ, face-painting, and food.

Additional sponsors include, Councilwoman Chauna Banks-Daniel, Jewel J, Newman Community Center, Office of the Mayor, CADAV, United Health Care Insurance, and Louisiana Primary Care Association.
