BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - The man accused of killing a mom and shooting her daughter during a home invasion was back in court Thursday morning for a status hearing.
Lawyers for Aramis Jackson complained to Judge Tony Marabella that they want access to a key piece of evidence against their client.
Defense lawyers want to examine the actual shoe recovered by police and the piece of flooring connected to it.
Marabella gave the defense 10 days to put together a protocol to examine the evidence.
Engler was shot to death inside her Beauregard Town home.
Her daughter, who was nine years old at the time, was seriously wounded in the attack. Investigators said Jackson's DNA was found on Engler's door.
Jackson is charged with first-degree murder and attempted first-degree murder.
