Ticket Amnesty program underway in Walker

WALKER, LA (WAFB) - There are more than 3,000 warrants for people who haven't paid their tickets in the city of Walker. Luckily, this month you can get your warrants wiped away.

It's called the ticket amnesty program. Walker Police Public Information Officer John Sharp said the city decided to do this. He said regardless of the number of warrants you have, if you come in during the month of March you can have your warrants removed.

Under the program you can get out of the 50 dollar warrant fee, but you still must pay the amount of the ticket.

Sharp said many people may have forgotten they even had a ticket, and this is something they should take advantage of.

"We are trying to clear a back log of warrants and help out some folks that need to get their business taking care of. Give them an opportunity to do that," said Sharp.

Sharp adds, the last thing police want to do is put people in jail.
