BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Detectives are trying to identify and track down two women suspected of breaking into vehicles, stealing checks and trying to cash them.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office reported the suspects were seen trying to cash a stolen check.
Deputies said the victim reported on Feb. 15, 2014 that the back window of her car was shattered and her purse was taken while the vehicle was parked on YMCA Plaza Drive in Baton Rouge.
Investigators said a woman tried to cash one of the stolen checks at the Regions Bank on Plank Road three days after the victim's purse was nabbed.
They said the suspect used the victim's Mississippi driver's license and debit card to try to cash a check for $1,800. Detectives said the teller reported the women were in a red Chevy Impala with dark tinted windows and a Florida license plate.
The license plate number was not given.
EBRSO said it has investigated many similar car break-ins in the past month. Deputies added they have received similar suspect descriptions of the women seen using some of the stolen checks and IDs.
Anyone with information on the break-ins or suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
