Fire destroys home, damages neighbor's vehicle and boat

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - Investigators said a fire destroyed a home and damaged a neighbor's vehicle and boat Tuesday night.

It happened on Wild Valley Road, which is in the Highland-Staring area, just before 10 p.m.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department reported the three people inside at the time made it out safely.

Firefighters said the flames engulfed the carport and were shooting through the roof when they arrived on the scene.

They said while battling the blaze they were actually forced back due to concern the roof would collapse.

Curt Monte with BRFD reported the heat was so intense it cause a neighbor's vehicle and boat to catch fire. Crews were able to keep the flames from spreading to the neighbor's home.

The house where the fire started is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire has not been determined and remains under investigation.

The St. George Fire District, EMS, Red Cross and Entergy also responded to the fire.
